Awarded Doctorate in Philosophy (Law) Dr. V. Irwin Jayasuriya, Attorney-at-Law and Notary Public of Colombo has been awarded a Doctorate in Philosophy (Law) from the Trinity International University, Delaware, U.S.A. Dr. Irwin Jayasuriya received his primary and post primary education at Nalanda Vidyalaya and Ananda College Colombo and graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Arts from the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya. After serving the public and private sectors, Dr. Jayasuriya was admitted and enrolled as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka and sworn-in as a Notary Public. Thereafter, Dr. Jayasuriya obtained the Diploma in International Trade law and Practice from the University of Colombo in 1988. He is also a registered Company Secretary. Dr. Irwin Jayasuriya is presently working towards the publication of the expanded version of his Doctoral thesis - "The Concept of Misconduct in the Termination of Employment". Dr. Jayasuriya has been functioning as a Visiting Lecturer in Industrial Law in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Peradeniya since 1995. Having first entered the teaching profession, Dr. Jayasuriya held inter alia, responsible positions of Personnel Manager of a large Corporation, the General Manager of a Private Sector Company and functioned as the Special Assistant to the Director of the Colombo Plan Bureau before being appointed Chairman of the Ceylon Transport Board in 1977 under the stewardship of the late President J. R. Jayewardene. Presently, Dr. Jayasuriya functions as the Hony. Vice Chairman of the Ceylon National Association for the Prevention of tuberculosis - CNAPT-, in addition to his practice in the Labour Tribunals and legal consultancy services in the private sector. Dr. Jayasuriya has gathered much experience having travelled abroad widely. Dr. Irwin Jayasuriya, who has many publications to his credit, published his first book titled "Selected Essays on Industrial and Civil Law" in the year 2000 (Stamford Press). |
