"It is a comprehensive document which reflects the aspirations of Tamil people ," TNA MP Sivagilingam told the reporters. "There is no conflict between our stance (on the ethnic question) and the LTTE counter proposals," he said. EPRLF MP Suresh Premachandra said the LTTE political chief had called for the suggestions from the TNA delegations. "We believe that our suggestions will be included in the final proposals". Both declined to reveal the content of the proposals or their suggestions. Premachandra however ruled out a necessity for a separate Muslim delegation "Our position (TNA) is that there is no need for a participation of a third party in peace negotiations right now". " The two parties should talk to the Muslims, after they agree on the modalities of the interim administration, he said. Yesterday's meeting between the TNA and the LTTE political chief was the first in a series of planned briefings of the non-LTTE Tamil parties on the Tigers counter proposals. Upcountry Peoples' Front Leader P. Chandrasekaran and Radha Krishnan are expected to meet Thamilselvam today, while Ceylon Workers Congress leader Arumugam Thondaman and R. Sellaswamy will meet the LTTE political chief on Saturday. |
