Transfer principal, says committee by Manjula Fernando The five-member committee investigating the attack on students of a leading girls school in Bambalapitiya has recommended that the principal be transferred to another school with immediate effect, senior officials at the Education Ministry said yesterday. In their report which is yet to receive the Education Minister's approval, the committee members have also observed that the four deputy principals along with the teachers reported to be behind the student's protests, should be transferred along with the principal. The committee was chaired by National Schools Director H.P. Geeganage, the official said. A protest campaign was held inside the school by a group of senior students on September 11 demanding the principal's removal who they said had caused a lot of distress among them and teachers. During the protest, a group of outsiders, allegedly brought in by the principal, have attacked some of the protesting students. About seven girls were injured. The Education Ministry and the National Child Protection Authority initiated inquiries into the incident. The NCPA inquiry is still continuing. The principal was appointed by the Education Ministry in January this year after the former Head retired after a long service in the same school. |
