On behalf of the Government and the people of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and my own behalf, it is my great pleasure to extend to Your Holiness and to the people of the Holy See my warmest felicitations and sincere best wishes on the occasion of the twenty-fifth Anniversary of the Election of Your Holiness to the Sovereign Pontificate.

On this silver jubilee year of your election we admire and support the efforts made by Your Holiness to reach out to people all over the world to promote peace, tolerance and universal understanding.

We are confident that the cordial relations of co-operation and understanding that happily exist between Sri Lanka and the Holy See will be further enhanced and strengthened in the years to come. The people of Sri Lanka very much appreciate the blessings and continuous support that Your Holiness has extended for peace and prosperity in my country.

May I extend my personal wishes for good health and long life of Your Holiness, and for continued peace and prosperity of the Holy See.
