Norwegian peace envoy here next month to revive talks by Ranga Jayasuriya Norwegian peace envoy Erik Solheim will arrive in Colombo early next month to prepare arrangements for a preliminary meeting aimed at reviving the stalled peace talks, diplomatic sources said. Solheim arriving here on a regular visit, will meet the Government peace negotiators and travel to Wanni to meet the LTTE hierarchy. This will be the first face to face meeting between the Government and the LTTE since the Tigers walked away from peace negotiations in mid April and is aimed at working out a format for the future peace negotiations and to discuss the participation of a separate Muslim delegation. Speculation is rife that the meeting will also focus on ironing out differences between the original Government offer for a North-East provisional administrative council and the LTTE demands in its counter proposals. Earlier, an LTTE spokesman said the Tigers will hand over their proposals on October 31 followed by a media conference to brief on the proposals. |
