AMCHAM to promote trade, investment with US

The Board of Directors of the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) met the visiting team of the US Trade Representative (USTR). The team was led by Ambassador Shiner who is the Deputy for the USTR which is part of the Executive Office of the President.

Shiner was in Sri Lanka to discuss issues with the Sri Lankan Government under the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) which was signed in July 2002 by the two Governments.

Shiner was accompanied by Ambassador Ashley Wills who was the US Ambassador in Sri Lanka for three years and others from the US Government in Washington DC. One member of the USTR team was a specialist in the field of apparel which will be one of the elements in a potential free trade agreement.

The USTR team met the AMCHAM Board to discuss issues pertaining to US companies operating in Sri Lanka as well as advantages and opportunities of conducting business in Sri Lanka.

AMCHAM will be the dynamic forum in Sri Lanka to promote investment, trade and the development of business relations between Sri Lanka and the United States.
