The hill capital has many virtues of which it may boast of Kandy Girls' High School with its ancient history of 125 years and its unique traditions is definitely a jewel one could be proud of.

Marking its 125th anniversary next year of a mission to give nothing but the best ladies to society, KHS begins its anniversary celebrations today.

Yes, the ladies of High School during all these years have contributed in their highest to the local as well as the international sports arena.

Beginning with the introduction of netball to Ceylon KHS has been crowned champions for many years. Sports inside the school play a major role to each of its students.

Having a choice of almost ten sports in the curriculum these ladies are blessed with some of the best coaches of the country to guide them. It is no surprise that therefore it is decided that the anniversary celebrations should begin hence.

"La fete de Sport" which will be held today and tomorrow at the school premises is a Sports Carnival - as the girls call it - with exhibition stalls for each sport, blended with the carnival atmosphere. Different schools in the district have been put in charge of each sport and it will be their job to make sure that they cover the history, rules, game etc. of that sport. Apart from that there will also be trade stalls and the rest of the carnival accessories to keep the crowd going with live band performances at the end of the first day, firework displays and a basketball match to highlight each day and bring the event to a 'sporty climax.'

The organisers definitely know what they are doing though it is a large scale project. Their priority is to draw attention of the society towards each sport available in the Sri Lankan grounds and to promote it, which will be a great help to Sri Lankan sports. Why a carnival? That is the way to get the crowd inside.

All this is the first step of KHS and its celebrations of the 125th anniversary.

It is going to be the most happening place in Kandy during that weekend that is for sure. So better drop in and experience the new concept of 'Partying Sportily'.
