Cricketer released on bail in UK BRC cricketer Manoj Hettiarachchi who was remanded for trial by the Uxbridge Magistrates Court in UK last month has been granted bail on surety of 10,000 pounds sterling. He is expected to appear for trial at London's Crown Court on November 13. Hettiarachchi along with Tamil Union cricketer Bathisha de Silva were nabbed by officers of the anti-terrorist branch at Heathrow airport in September when they were about to board the SriLankan Airways flight to Colombo. They had been playing league cricket for Sudbury CC in Harrow. Hettiarachchi was charged with the offence of handling stolen property with the intention of supplying etc when they found 22 cloned credit cards and four signed cheques to the value of 20,000 pounds sterling on him. Hettiarachchi claimed that the cards and cheques were given to him by De Silva who had denied any knowledge of it. De Silva was not charged as no evidence was found on him. |
