Dr. Godakumbura makes presentation in Australia

Dr. Wijaya Godakumbura, Consultant Surgeon of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, made a presentation at the Asia Pacific Burn Congress held recently in Brisbane, Australia. He was the only delegate from a SAARC country to do so and it was on the Safe Bottle Lamp Project he launched a few years ago. Here Dr. Godakumbura shows the safe lamp that is marketed below cost by his organisation, the Safe Bottle Lamp Foundation. He had made such presentations at seven other international Burn Congresses previously.

Over 500,000 of his safe lamps are now in use in the country, and a further 2 1/2 million have to be provided to the poor to eliminate the serious burn injuries that unsafe bottle lamps cause.

He is seeking the assistance of public and private sector organisations to achieve that goal. During his recent tour of Australia, he also made a presentation to the Sri Lankan community in Melbourne, after which they gave a donation of Rs. 174,000 to his NGO.

Its address is, The Safe Bottle Lamp Foundation, National Hospital of Sri Lanka in Colombo. The phone number is 2674847 and the e-mail address is [email protected] states the lamp foundation in a press release.
