Plastic surgery mission at Vavuniya General Hospital On the initiative of the Minister of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugees, Prof. Jayalath Jayawardena a plastic surgical camp is being conducted at Vavuniya General Hospital from October 14 to 21 with the participation of world recognised Plastic Surgeons from the United Kingdom and Malaysia under the leadership of Dr. Charles Viva. The team which is headed by Dr. Charles Viva, comprises Prof. K. Thambyraja, Orthopaedic Surgeon (Malaysia) Dr. S. Sathappan, Plastic Surgeon (Malaysia) Dr. S. Somasundram, Anaesthetist (Malaysia) and Dr. E. Velaudapillai, Anaesthetist (UK), Dr. P. Jeyaratnam, Anaesthetist (UK) and Dr. A. Paluzzi, Surgeon (UK). The mission team has screened 220 patients and performed a total of 43 most difficult plastic surgical operations on patients from Vavuniya and Mullaitivu. In addition, these experts have delivered lectures to Sri Lankan doctors. This is another project of the Ministry of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugees with the German Help Foundation (Sri Lanka). There have been more than sixteen such camps during the last two years where hundreds of patients from the North East were treated with modern surgical operations. The details of plastic surgery carried out by the mission team will be disseminated through the Website of the Ministry of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugees. |
