Provincial Council minister's murder :

 CCD told to forward weapon, bullets to Govt Analyst

Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarath C. Karunaratne directed the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) investigating the murder of PA Southern Provincial Council Minister M.K. Ranjith alias Chandi Malli, to forward the weapon and spent bullets used by the assailant to the Government Analyst for a report.

Earlier CCD Director Senior SP Sarath Lugoda said he had deployed a special team to arrest the army deserter wanted in connection with the murder. The Judge further remanded the five suspects in the murder till October 29.

At the outset, the CCD investing Ranjith's murder told the Judge that the special police team is looking for two more suspects allegedly involved in the murder and the weapon used in the killing.

The investigators arrested six suspects allegedly involved in the killing.

Sunil Ratnaweera, the main suspect in the case was killed while being taken to the Hambantota courts. The three special Police teams deployed to trace Ratnaweera's killer have collected information about the assailants, said Southern Range DIG D.W. Prathapasinghe who is directing investigations.
