Parents knew Dutch paedophile's affair with son, says NCPA

by Nadira Gunatilleke

A foreigner who sexually abused a 14-year-old boy from Palangathure was taken into custody by National Child Protection Authority's (NCPA) special police unit, a NCPA spokesman said.

He said that the foreigner was arrested after an investigation by the special police unit under the guidance of NCPA Chairman Prof. Harendra de Silva.

Police suspect that the boy's family knew about the relationship. The NCPA will also take action against them. The 31-year-old Dutch man had visited Sri Lanka several times and engaged in a sexual relationship with the boy every time he visited Sri Lanka. Police officers arrested the foreigner at night while he was in bed with the boy at the house he stayed in.

The boy was taken into NCPA custody. The child and the foreigner were produced before courts yesterday. It was revealed that the foreigner was planning to take the child to the Netherlands.
