BCS Graduation ceremony

The annual Graduation ceremony of the British Computer Society (BCS) was held on October 12 at the BMICH. Vice President BCS, Charles Hughes was the Chief Guest. Over 400 successful Graduands were conferred Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates.

The distinct honour of presenting the Special Award for the youngest person in the world to qualify as a BCS Graduate took place at the Graduation ceremony.

The BCS is the only Chartered Engineering Institution for Information Technology (IT) with members in over 100 countries. It is responsible for setting standards for the IT profession and leading change in public perception and appreciation of economic and social importance of professionally managed IT projects and programs. In this capacity, the society advises the government and industry on successful IT implementation.

The Society is recognised as the authoritative voice of those seeking prominence in computing. It is also an Engineering Institution and a founding Member of the Council for European Professional Informatics Societies (CEPIS).

In 1996, the Sri Lanka Section of the BCS, which is the second overseas section, was formed and the membership is second only to the UK. The Sri Lanka section has successfully organised the 'National Best Quality Software Awards' for recognition of achievement, improvement and innovation in the field of Software Development.

By setting standards for IT, developing cutting edge products and services, encouraging IT professionals to continuously develop their skills and competence, informing and influencing individuals and organisations including the government on key issues, initiating debate on strategic IT issues and providing international support, the BCS is working to make the IT Profession, the choice of the 21st Century.
