With an initial membership of 57 Sri Lankan and Japanese company representatives, the Sri Lanka Business Council of Japan was commissioned by the Sri Lanka Ambassador to Japan Karunatilaka Amunugama, the Chief Patron of the Council at the Embassy premises in Tokyo on October 9.

The establishment of the Sri Lanka Business Council of Japan is a continuation of the ongoing efforts in pursuit of government's overseas Business Promotion Program launched by the Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, the Sri Lanka Embassy in co-operation with the Sri Lanka Business Community in Japan with the objective of promoting trade, investment and tourism between the two countries.

Officials of the Japan Sri Lanka Business Co-operation Committee, Japan Jewellery Association, Japan Rubber Association and Japan Tea Association as well as leading Japanese and Sri Lankan Business Community were among the invitees for the special event held at the Embassy premises in Tokyo.

While addressing the Sri Lanka Business Council Members, Amunugama expressed his appreciation, for the latter's dedication and support in formation of the Sri Lanka Business Council swiftly to achieve its objectives.

The Ambassador said that "the Business Council in commission would carry out it activities with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Mission in Tokyo, to ensure more effective co-ordination of efforts to promote investment, trade, tourism and economic co-operation and project a positive image of Sri Lanka in Japan.
