Water sports scholarships

Baron de Livera, President-Windsurfing Association of Sri Lanka handed over an agreement to Gamini Jayawickrama Perera, Minister of Irrigation & Water Management, confirming 5 scholarships to the youth of the Mahaweli Region.

These Scholarships offered by Lankasportreizen (LSR) entail a one year comprehensive training program in all aspects of water sports.

The recipients will be provided with complete facilities that include full board and lodging at LSR's coastal tourist resorts. The successful trainees will receive certificates at the end of the program as qualified instructors.

The Minister expressed his thanks to Thilak Weerasinghe, Managing Director of LSR, for his magnanimous gesture and also the Windsurfing Association for its unstinted efforts in promoting water sports in rural areas. An aqua-sports display was held recently at the Chandrikawewa rsevoir in Embilipitiya. The events were introduced for the first time as a part of the 17th Mahaweli Games.
