Polonnaruwa farmers complain of poor financial returns

Polonnaruwa is one of the major paddy-producing districts in the country. With bumper harvests recorded paddy farmers in Polonnaruwa are in a quandary. There is a Sinhala saying that "once a farmer washes off his mud he is suitable to be a king", but in this instance farmers in Polonnaruwa after washing off their mud are waiting to collect their monies due for paddy sold or to sell their paddy for Rs. 13.50.
