Wadduwa special correspondent A tragic death occurred when a mechanic who was repairing a tractor while it was on the move was runover by it and died on admission to hospital. The victim was Illeperuma Arachchige Lionel Perera of Gonaduwa, Moronthuduwa. He was forty nine years old. Thilak Pushpakumara (25) who gave evidence at the inquest held at Nagoda, Kalutara General Hospital in the presence of N. D. Pathmasiri, the Inquirer into Sudden Deaths at Kalutara said: "My employment is the transporting of granite stones in tractors and I can drive a tractor even though I do not have a licence." When Lionel was driving the tractor there was a breakdown. He asked me to assist in repairing the tractor and took me in the tractor. There was an unusual sound in the tractor and he sat on the footboard of the tractor and inspected the defects in the engine while it was moving. Suddenly he slipped and fell from the tractor. He was run over by the rear wheel of the tractor.I stopped the tractor and he was unconscious and bleeding. He was rushed to Nagoda-Kalutara General Hospital where he died.
