Five suspects further remanded until Oct.15 by Sarath Malalasekera Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarath C. Karunaratne yesterday further remanded the five suspects in the murder of PA Southern Provincial Council Minister M.K.Ranjith alias Chandi Malli until October 15. The Provincial Council Minister was shot dead by an unidentified gunmen close to the High Security Zone, York Street, Colombo on May 25 morning. He was killed while returning after appearing before the CID on a court order. Earlier, the Judge directed the Prisons authorities to produce the suspects before the Special Court at the Prison premises. The Judge made the order on an application by the Prison authorities that for security reasons they are unable to transport the suspects to the Fort Magistrate's Court. At the outset the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) investigating the murder told the Judge that the special police team is looking for two more suspects allegedly involved in the murder and the weapon used in the killing. Investigators arrested six suspects allegedly been involved in the killing. Sunil Ratnaweera, the main suspect was killed while being taken to the Hambantota courts. The three special Police teams deployed on the direction of IGP T.E. Anandarajah to trace the killers has collected information about the assailants. Their arrest is imminent, said Southern Range DIG D.W. Prathapasinghe who is directing investigations. Filing a further report, CCD officials said they had not completed the investigations into the killing. |
