Fraud case : Suspects granted bail

The two suspects remanded in connection with the alleged fraud of Rs. 27 million worth of travellers cheques were yesterday granted bail by Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarath C. Karunaratne.

S. Izadeen Azoor of Bambalapitiya and M. Mohideen Jalaldeen of Trincomalee were ordered to furnish cash bail Rs. 25,000 and a bond of Rs. 300,000 each.

Granting bail, the Judge directed the suspects to appear before the OIC, CID on the last Sunday of every month. The suspects were also ordered to surrender their passports to court and directed not leave the country without obtaining prior permission from Court.

The CID investigating the fraud at Seylan Bank, told Court that they are looking for two more suspects in connection with the fraud.

The CID said the first suspect Azoor had been an employee of Seylan Bank. Court ordered the second suspect to make a second statement to the CID yesterday.

Jayaki de Alwis, S. Missba and Shiraz Noordeen appeared for the two suspects.
