Legal officers felicitate President's Counsel by Sarath Malalasekera It is a historic day for Legal officers at the Legal Draftsman's Department as the first woman Legal Draftsman Therese Perera was appointed President's Counsel, said Mano Ramanathan, President of the Legal Officers' Association of the Legal Draftsman's Department at a felicitation ceremony at the Galle Face Hotel recently. Ramanathan said that the new Woman President's Counsel made another mark in Sri Lanka's legal profession by becoming the first couple to become the President's Counsel. Her husband President's Counsel Dr. Rohan Perera is the Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Perera was an old girl of St. Bridget's Convent. She won awards following training programmes in Legislative Drafting for Asia and the Pacific conducted by the Commonwealth Fund for technical co-operation in Sri Lanka, Ramanathan said. A felicitation speech in Sinhala was delivered by Ruvani Hapuarachchi, Secretary of the Association and in Tamil by V. Vimaleswaran, a committee member of the Association. A good wishes presentation was made by former Legal Draftsman, President's Counsel Nalin J. Abeysekera. President's Counsel Perera paid tribute to all Association members for organising the felicitation dinner. Natasha Perera sang while cutting the felicitation cake at the ceremony. Sriyanganie Fernando delivered the vote of thanks. |
