Policeman's son assaults businessman, threatens OIC

by Asanga Warnakulasuriya

A Police Field Force Headquarters Chief Inspector's 19-year-old son who was under the influence of alcohol, is alleged to have assaulted a businessman near the Raddoluwa Housing Scheme, Raddoluwa Police said yesterday. According to Raddoluwa OIC Inspector Himala Rajapakse, the youth who was after liquor, had been seen loitering near the Raddoluwa Housing Scheme on Tuesday evening.

He had suddenly crossed the road and the businessman travelling in a van was forced to apply brakes. The youth was knocked down, but escaped without serious injuries. The van's side mirror was damaged.

Thereafter, the youth is alleged to have physically assaulted the businessman.

The OIC who arrived at the scene had been threatened by the son stating that he is son of a CI and the OIC would be transferred to Jaffna if any action is taken against him. The OIC who stood his ground had taken the son into custody.

The son was produced before the Negombo Magistrate yesterday.
