Lanka 'A' lose first ODI by 32 runs South Africa 'A' drew first blood when they beat Sri Lanka 'A' by 32 runs in the first day-night limited overs match played at Potchefstroom on Friday. Winning the toss South Africa 'A' totalled 253-5 in 50 overs with opening bat A.M. Amla carrying his bat out for an undefeated 107 off 137 balls with 11 fours. He won the man-of-the-match award. With wicket-keeper van Wyck, Amla gave South Africa 'A' a sound start by posting 83 on the board. But fast bowler Thilan Thushara Mirando broke through by bowling van Wyck for 52 scored off 69 balls with one six and seven fours. Mirando went onto capture two further wickets as South Africa slumped to 86-4 in the 20th over. However with Amla holding up one end, South Africa recovered through a partnership of 70 between Amla and Jeremy Kemp (24) and an unfinished 97-run stand between Amla and Kent (51 n.o. off 56 balls, 3 fours) to make a respectable total. Sri Lanka failed to build up any big partnerships and the best they could offer was 53 off 83 balls between skipper Russel Arnold and Lanka de Silva. Arnold went onto make a top score of 52 off 88 balls with five fours and De Silva made 21. Some lusty hitting by lanky Nuwan Zoysa who raced to a half-century off 41 balls inclusive of six fours and two sixes enabled Sri Lanka to cross the 200-run mark after being 138-7 in the 36th over. |
