Senkadagala group corr. "Berrewaerts Day" to mark the 40th Death Anniversary of Rev. Fr. Augustine Berrewaerts, S.J. the founder Principal of Berrewaerts College, Ampitiya, Kandy earlier known as Ampitiya College was held at the College hall with religious services and other activities, recently. It was organised by the Principal L.R.B. Kularatne, teachers, students, pupils and parents. Fr. Berrewaerts was the Principal of Berrewaerts College from 1905 to 1955. In addition to the commemorative meeting, a special service was conducted by Fr. Lasantha de Abrew of Mawathagama at St. Mary's Church, Ampitiya. Ven. Munwatte Dhammananda Thera delivered an anusasana at the special meeting presided by the principal L.R.B. Kularatne. S. Manawadu, Rtd. Chief Post Master, Kandy (an old Ampitiyan) who was the chief guest garlanded the Berrewaerts statue with Fr. Lasantha de Abrew, D.M.T.B. Dissanayake, Gangawata Korale Pradeshiya Sabha member (Old Ampitiyan), L.R.B. Kularatne principal and others. In this connection teachers, students, prefects, scouts and members of the Environment Society and St. John's Ambulance service cleaned the wards of the Talatuoya Rural Hospital and treated the residential patients and the staff. |
