by Florence Wickramage The Department of Wildlife Conservation has recruited 145 new trainees to strengthen its cadre of tour guides, Protected Area Management Project (PAMP) Director Dayananda Kariyawasam told the Daily News yesterday. There is a dearth of trained tour guides in the department who are qualified to provide information and guidance to tourists visiting national parks. The move to train new tour guides is part of PAMP's aim of attracting more visitors to national parks by improving and expanding services provided to them.New visitor centres will also be established. |
