The Junior Bar Committee of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) organised the Junior National Law Conference, a two day resident workshop where over 200 lawyers from all over the country participated. The conference was successfully concluded on September 21 at the Tangerine Beach Hotel, Kalutara. This conference was organised in collaboration with the UNDP. The Chief Guest was Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva, P.C. and the Guest of Honour was the UNDP Representative in Sri Lanka, Miguel Bormeo. The other notable guests included Nihal Jayasinghe, Judge of the Supreme Court; Ananda Wijesekera, President, BASL; Kalinga Indatissa, Secretary, BASL and Ms. Thusitha Pilapitiya of the UNDP. Dr. Harsha Cabral, Chairman of the Junior Bar Committee was ably assisted by his team of young Attorneys-at-Law, comprising Messrs Amal Randeniya, Convener; Dimuthu Senerath Bandara, Project Chairman; Ms. Dedunie De Silva, Ms. Tavisha Nanayakkara, Messrs. Binara Gunasekara, Channa Ranasinghe, Sampath Mendis, Sanath Wijewaradane, Sanjay Fonseka, Nirmalan Wigneswaran, Nisasiri Dayananda, Sanjeewa Dasanayake and many others who helped organize a conference of this magnitude in a short period of three months. Those who participated in the conference were of high praise of the way the conference was organized and also of the course contents of the numerous different workshops conducted, which included two workshops conducted by the UNDP and several others where many eminent President's Counsel were among the distinguished speakers. The Junior Bar Committee and the organizers of the event wish to thank all those who actively participated in this conference and helped make it a success. |
