Seneviratne resigns as Nalanda coach Former Sri Lankan cricketer and coach Jayantha Seneviratne has relinquished his coaching stint with Nalanda after 18 long years. Before taking to coaching he met with great success as a batsman for Nalanda, Bloomfield and later for Sri Lanka. During his stint as coach, he helped the school win 18 trophies (Senior) and 6 trophies (Junior). What was amazing was that during his tenure the school lost just 7 matches. Those who assisted him during his 18 years as coach were Shammi Thilakawardena, Sajeewa Mendis, Leslie Narangoda and Nishantha Kumara. Seneviratne is best remembered for his sterling knocks of 85 against India at the Oval and 98 not out against Pakistan at Lahore in 1974. He is a coaching instructor of the BCCSL. Nalanda will be hard pressed to find a replacement of his calibre. |
