Heshan - a promising swimmer Upananda Jayasundera-Kandy sports special correspondent Heshan Unamboowe 11 year old Grade VI Student of Trinity College, Kandy has performed extremely well in Swimming . He secured the first place with a record time in 50 metres Back Stroke at the 22nd Tamil Nadu - Sri Lanka Schools Swimming Meet held in Chennai, India in July 2003. He was adjudged the Junior National Champion after securing first place in 50 and 100 metres Back Stroke, 200 meters Free Style, Medley and 2nd Place in 100 metres Butterfly Stroke at the 27th National Age Group swimming and Diving Meet held in July 2003. Heshan secured the First place in 50 metres Free Style, Back Stroke, Butterfly Stroke and 200 metres individual medley at the National Age Group Meet in 2002. He emerged Champion of under 10 Age Group at the 26th National Age Group Swimming and Diving Championship in which meet he secured the 1st place in 100 meters Free Style, 50 meters Butterfly Style, 50 meters Back Stroke and 200 meters Individual Medley in 2001. He was adjudged Champion Swimmer in his Age Group at the 24th National Age Group Swimming and Diving Championship in 2000. |
