Anura Rohana breaks course record

Sri Lanka's only Asian PGA tour golf professional R. A. Anura Rohana fired at 10 under par 61, in the second round of the 2003 Sri Lanka Open Golf Championships, to vault into the lead by 6 shots over Veteran Maestro Nandasena Perera, whose 15 years old record of 63 at the Royal Colombo Golf Club he broke. Rohana had a 10 birdie, bogey free round which could have been a 59 had he not missed two easy chip and putt birdies on the 14th and 18th holes.

Nandasena posted a 3 under 68 to follow his level par first round to be in second spot.

Sri Lanka's Amateur team members, Lalith Kumara and M. Amarapadma together with first round leader J. J. Kumar are tied for third, 2 shots behind Nandasena. Nandasena's son 16-year old Mithum Perera, shot consecutive 73s to be in 10th spot.

115 Golfers started the Tournament of which 31 players with scores of 161 or less made the cut off to be eligible to play the last two rounds. The Sri Lanka Open 2003 has been well supported. The main sponsor is United Tractor Equipment Ltd and the Co-Sponsors Corona and Shop.lk amongst many generous Golf enthusiasts.
