Nestle's Sales Promotions and sponsorship manager Bandula Egodage said that this weekend's Nestomalt-Dinamina Regional Mini Marathon in Matara will be of great importance with the participation of Carlo Donati, Chairman of Nestle International based in India.

Carlo Donati an Italian who has a fine scrutiny of his company's involvement in sports promotion in Sri Lanka will arrive today and will be a special invitee at the Nestomalt marathon to be held from Weligama to Matara on Saturday.

Donati has decided to take a closer look at the marathon this time and his visit could also bring further assistance once the event is monitored on his own and to encourage more sports events in Sri Lanka.

Egodage said that this is the first time that a Head of the Nestle International is participating in a Nestomalt marathon and a great honour for the organisers and the sponsors of the event. Carlo Donati will also be invited for the awards ceremony which will be held during the Nestomalt Geethanjali musical extravaganza.

Egodage also said that the collective effort of Nestle Lanka Limited and the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited is the main source behind the success of the Nestomalt-Dinamina marathon series.

The first event of the Nestomalt-Dinamina marathon series was held in 1982 in Kandy with a participation of just 150 competitors but now it has increased to over 1500 entries in the past couple of years.

This is mainly due to the excellent groundwork done by the ANCL and Nestle Lanka Limited along with the Athletic Association of Sri Lanka, Local Government Authorities and the Sri Lanka Police.
