Child seeks your help for urgent heart surgery

Eight month old, Ranasinghe Arachchige Tharush Dilmina of No. 414/2 Mahayaya Watta Colony, Kahatawila in the Wennappuwa electorate is suffering from an acute heart disease.

Consultant Cardio-Thoracic Surgeon Dr. Aruna Kapuruge of the Sri Jayawardanapura hospital has recommended urgent heart surgery to save the child's life. The surgery is estimated to cost Rs.200,000 which should be paid on the date of admission.

The child's parents R. A. Sugath Sanjeewa and D. D. Samanmalee Dilrukshi say they are very poor and not in a position to foot this bill.

They request philanthropists to help save the child's life by making whatever financial contributions possible. Donations should be remitted to Account No. 209-095673-9 at the People's Bank Dankotuwa Branch. Money orders may be send to R. A. Sugath Sanjeewa, No. 414/2, Mahayaya Watta Colony, Kahatawila, Pothuwatawana, payable at the Pothuwatawana post office.

Halim Ishak dies

Senior SLFPer and former Colombo District Parliamentarian Halim Ishak died yesterday at a private hospital. He was 64 at the time of death.

He was one of the few SLFPers elected during the UNP landslide of 1977, from the Colombo Central multi-member constituency. Thereafter in 1989 he was appointed as Nationalist List MP by the party at the first General Election held under the PR system. Mr. Ishak later joined the UNP just before the 1994 General Election.

Halim Ishak started his political career as member of the Colombo Municipal Council. He contested the General Elections of 1965 and 1970 without success. He was also the Vice President of the Islamic Socialist Front. Janaza took place at the Kuppiyawatte Cemetery yesterday.

American pianists to perform here

Two American musicians will visit Sri Lanka from September 22 to October 1. They are Michael Sheppard, recipient of the American Piano Association's 2003 Classical Fellowship Award and Joel Harrison, Artistic Director of the American Piano Association.

Sheppard will present an invitational performance in Kandy. He will also appear in concert with the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka on September 27 at the Ladies College Hall.

Both musicians will conduct master classes during their visit. Sheppard will conduct a session in Colombo and Harrison will conduct sessions in Colombo, Galle and Kandy.

Infant needs help

Kasun Prasad of No. 168A, Naula, a 10 months old infant is suffering from a severe heart disease that needs immediate heart surgery at a cost of Rs.3,25000 at Apollo Hospital Colombo.The child's father who is a minor employee states that his meagre income is not adequate to supplement the financial relief granted under the Presidential Fund to meet this heavy expenditure. He seeks financial aid from willing philanthropists by sending any remittances to the child's Account No.3885 at Bank of Ceylon, Naula Branch.
