Hostel for Polgolla Co-operative Development Institute

The National Co-operative Development Institute, Polgolla, Kandy, opened a new 26-room hostel constructed at a cost of Rs. 15 million with all facilities for the students of the Institute recently.

Minister of Co-operatives Abdul Cader welcoming the Guest of Honour Bagawathi Prasad, Executive Director of the National Co-operative Board India and the Indian Whykuntha Metha Co-operative Institute, on the occasion said it is an auspicious day, as we are able to join hands with our Indian counterpart which has the largest co-operative movement in the world and open up new comprehensive training programmes for our students at the co-operative Institute. This he said is in addition to the new vision and outlook that is currently being implemented by the co-operative ministry. He said that we possess the resources and a dedicated workforce in this endeavour.

Bagawathi Prasaad addressing the audience said that, India and Sri Lanka have many things in common as the historical background between the two countries dates back to many centuries. He said that they have come to implement many beneficial programs in the country.

He pledged his unstinted assistance to Sri Lanka at all levels in the co-operative movement. The programme concluded with the presentation of certificates to the students who had completed the training course at the Institute and the awarding of scholarships to 3 students to attend a month long course of studies at the Whykuntha Metha Co-operative Institute, India.
