Land alienation delays motor car factory in Matugama by Kalutara group corr. Minister of Labour and Employment Mahinda Samarasinghe said that he would be able to offer about 3,700 jobs for the youths in Kalutara District no sooner the proposed Motor factory project opens in the Matugama electorate. However, it has been one year since the 25 acres of St. Edwards Estate land belonging to the Land Reform Commission (LRC) has not been released yet to proceed with the project. He was addressing the monthly meeting of the District Development Committee held at Kalutara District office premises under the patronage of Kalutara G.A. Yasmin Siriwardena. The Minister has ordered the Kalutara GA to hold a discussion with the administrative officials in the district to approve the allocation of 25 acres from the LRC, he said. He also said that a temporary motor factory (microcars) is going to be stalled at Polgahawela as a result of the delay of the land allocation. He further said that he was going to report the matter to the Lands Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne. Kalutara district MP, P. D. Abeyratne proposed that the judiciary work in Kahatuduwa area be shifted to the Horana judiciary premises. He said that a group of cultivators in a Govi Samithiya in the area have been forced to pay Rs. 50,000. He appealed to the minister to look into this matter and ensure that this system is stopped. Ms. Sirima Kariyawasam WPC member, D. M. Dissanayake and H. Thilakaratne, Assistant Director attached to the District Office Kalutara and few others also spoke. |
