Rs. 4,500 million BOI projects in Central Regional Investment Zone

Minister of Central Regional Development, Tissa Attanayake said, "foreign and local investors have made applications for approval of projects amounting to Rs. 4,500 million which would generate large scale employment opportunities. Thirteen projects have been approved, where local investors will contribute Rs. 2,262 million and foreign investors Rs. 775 million.

He was addressing officials of the Central Regional Investment Promotion Zone at its fortnightly meeting.

Applications for nine more projects have been received where local investor contributions will be Rs. 780 million and foreign investor contributions will be Rs. 775 million for these projects which will generate around 2,500 employment opportunities. Two factories to be opened shortly with an investment of Rs. 97 million will provide 500 with employment.

A further 26 projects, the majority of which are in housing, food packaging, agriculture and animal husbandry, have been received to the value of Rs. 155 million and will provide employment to nearly 1,000.
