Old Wesleyites inter-schools sixes on Sept. 27-28 The 11th annual six-a-side cricket tournament organised by the Old Wesleyite Sports Club and sponsored by Ceylon Cold Stores Limited will be worked off on September 27 and 28 at the Wesley College grounds in Campbell Park. This year's tournament will be of great significance with the participation of three combined teams from Jaffna, Batticaloa and Anuradhapura. Altogether a total of 24 teams including the top 20 schools in last year's Elephant Lemonade Cup 'A' division league tournament will be invited for this tournament. This tournament has now turned out to be a regular event in the inter school cricket calendar and has been very popular among the schoolboys in the past few years. The coloured clothing and the live telecast of the matches on radio and television have added more glamour into this tournament which have received a sponsorship of another five years from Ceylon Cold Stores Limited. Lumbini Maha Vidyalaya will defend their title which they won last year with some of the outstation schools too vying for honours. The draw for the tournament will take place on September 19. The champions will receive the Elephant Lemonade Cup and the runners-up will receive the Old Wesleyites Sports Club trophy. In addition special awards will be presented to the best batsman, best bowler, best fielder, man of the match and man of the tournament. (C.D.) |
