Panadura group correspondent It is the duty of the police to take preventine measures to combat crime because well organised Chicago style murders are increasing, said Panadura Division Senior Superiendent of Police, Kithsiri Dayananda. Speaking at an awareness programme on drugs and crime at the Panadura Town Hall. SSP Dayananda said: "The police celebrated the 137th anniversary of its inception in Sri Lanka. The police is always in action to create a justifiable society but public cooperation is at stake. "Hundred and twenty two suspects were taken in for questioning following raids in Panadura police division on Monday night. Police also arrested 97 errant drivers for violating traffic laws". He said 22 men and women were arrested in connection with drug trafficking. Students must refrain from getting involved in vice and drug activities. The SSP said recently there were allegations that a suspect in Moragahahena police custody had been murdered by police. But the JMO, Colombo certified that the suspect had a fall and death was due to injuries on the head. So how can that be a murder? he asked. |
