SPC in record Rs. 2 billion turnover by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi The State Pharmaceutical Corporation (SPC) has recorded a turnover of RS 2007 million for the year ended December 2002, making it the highest in the thirty one- year history of the Corporation. " We are very proud to achieve a record turnover while providing a quality and satisfactory service to the public," SPC Chairperson Sunethra Ranasinghe told the Daily News in an interview. Today, SPC is the sole importer of healthcare items for the Department of Health Services, which in turn, supplies all Government hospitals throughout the island. The SPC is also a leading importer of health care items to the private sector and competes with local and international pharmaceutical companies operating in Sri Lanka. In the last financial year ended 31, December 2002, SPC's turnover passed the Rs 2000 million for the first time and recorded a turnover of Rs 2007 million. " This is an increase of 35 per cent against the turnover of Rs 1,489 million recorded in year 2001," added Mrs. Ranasinghe. At the same time, Net Profit before Tax has achieved Rs 375 million in the year 2002, as against Rs 207 million recorded in year 2001. " The percentage increase is an extra ordinary 81 per cent," Mrs. Ranasinghe noted. |
