Soumia Meiyappan, a 17-year-old student from the Central Peel Secondary School in Canada was one of 23 high school students to attend presidential classroom (Future World Leaders Summit) an American-based programme designed to teach young people about the inner workings of Government. She remains particularly excited about the friendship kindled with a group of Sri Lankan teenagers. Meiyappan's parents are from Sri Lanka. "It was nice to converse with people in Singhala other than (family)," she said. Brampton's relatively small Sri Lankan population made socializing with other teenagers who share the same cultural background a rate treat, Meiyappan said. |
