Light Infantry wins Swimming C'ship The Sri Lanka Light Infantry Sports Club with 69 points won the overall swimming championship at the 7th National Sports Festival of the disabled 2003, which was conducted at the Sugathadasa swimming complex recently. Gemunu Watch Sports Club and Gajaba Sports Club were placed second and third respectively with 40 and 35 points. The 7th National Sports Festival for the disabled is lavish sponsored by Dialog GSM has given the disabled sportsmen the courage to prove their talents. Mahinda Dissanayake of Gemunu Watch was outstanding in the 100 m free style event clocking 2:30.09 secs. Meanwhile Upul Bandara from Commando Regiment clinched a double winning the 50 and 100 m events. Ajith Pushpakumara representing Special Forces SC won 50 and 100 m Free Style event and secured the second place in the 100 m Backstroke. KVC Priyadharshana who won three gold at the world swimming championships for disabled was in superb form winning three events to bring glory to his club Sri Lanka Light Infantry. Gajaba Sports Club's Asanka Kumara was a another swimmer to win a tipple to be the best performer. S. C. Mallawaarachchi and Suranga Indika Weerasinghe too were able to receive best performers awards in their respective categories. S. N. Jayaratne (SLLISC) won the 50 m Free Style 50 m Backstroke and the 50 m Breaststroke be adjudged the Best Performer in his category. In the women events it was Chamari Kuda Balage who did her best for Rehab Lanka SC winning all three events she participated in. |
