by Manjula Fernando 'Nipunatha 2003' education fair of the Tertiary Education and Training Ministry was inaugurated at Moneragala Technical College grounds under the patronage of former Minister and Moneragala district MP Dharmadasa Banda. In line with the inauguration, a new administrative building for the Moneragala Technical College, built at a cost of Rs. 20 million will be opened by the Tertiary Education and Training Minister Kabeer Hashim today. A Vocational training Centre, with facilities for 100 students will be opened at Siyambalanduwa in the afternoon. Arrangements have also been made to lay foundation stones for two new vocational training centres at Wellawaya and Bibile on Sunday to mark the event. Tertiary Education and Training Ministry is in the process of introducing new and popular courses in the technical colleges stream with the objective of creating a laddering system for school dropouts to enter university after a recognised diploma course. Nipunatha exhibition aims at popularising this concept and educate rural youth on opportunities in the technical education stream showcasing what has been achieved so far and future plans. The exhibition also covers self-employment sector, job market requirements, career guidance, IT, technical education, cultural and agricultural sector. The exhibition is represented by the public and private sector, non-government organisations and institutions under the ministry. The Colombo University IT centre and the Open University promotion booths had a special place in the exhibition. |
