by Ananda Kannangara, Kandy correspondents Asela Kuruluwansa and Indika Polkotuwa Visiting Thai Prime Minister Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra and the Thai delegation yesterday paid homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic at Kandy Sri Dalada Maligawa along with Diyawadana Nilame Neranjan Wijeyeratne. This is a special Tooth relic exposition held at Maligawa to coincide with the arrival of the Thai Premier. The Premier arrived in the Asgiriya International Cricket Stadium by helicopter around 1.30 p.m. and was received by the Central Region Development Minister Tissa Attanayake. The Premier was also welcomed by several other officials including the Kandy Mayor Kesara Senanayake, Deputy Mayor L.B. Aluwihare and Kandy Divisional Secretary L.B. Polgolla. Thereafter he paid a courtesy call on Malwatta Mahanayaka, Ven. Rambukwelle Sri Vipassi Thera and Asgiriya Maha Nayaka Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Thera and received their blessings. He also offered Pirikara to the Mahanayakas. Prime Minister Shinawatra also placed floral tribute to the statue of Ven. Pavara Upali Thera at Adahana Maluwa Temple. The Prime Minister also placed floral tribute to the statue of Welivita Sri Saranankara Thera at Malwatte. He was also honoured with a special honorary title at Asgiriya Maha Viharaya and later inspected the ongoing construction work of the International Buddhist Centre at Pallekele. He also opened a new Budu Medura and laid the foundation stone to construct a new Bikkhu hospital. |
