Ransilu for weightlifting c'ships in Indonesia by S. M. Jiffrey Abdeen Kandy sports corr. Sixteen-year-old double international from Kingswood College - Ransilu Jayatillake is representing Sri Lanka at the Asian Junior Weightlifting Championship which is currently being held in Bali, Indonesia. Burly Ransilu Jayatillake is rather big made for his age and weights over 105 kilogrammes and since the iron sport is categorised under the body weight, he has to often compete with men twice his age and experience and he has come out with flying colours bringing honour to his school, hometown and the motherland. He is so young to participate in this competition for another four years and by that time he would have become a veteran in this contest and bigger deeds could be expected from him. Ransilu Jayatillake broke into the weight lifting scene as a thirteen-year-old kid under the guidance of his illustrious father, the triple international D. U. Mohottilal Jayatillake who himself has represented the country in weight lifting, body building, power lifting and very lately strength building where he holds a world record. Following in the footsteps of his father Ransilu has set up many Junior and Senior national records in power lifting and weight lifting and he is also the highest lifter in the history of power lifting. Ransilu Jayatillake last year won three silver medals at the Asian Youth Weight Lifting championship. He also secured the 6th place competing in the 105 kg weight category last year at the Asian Junior Weightlifting championships held in Thailand. He should improve on this, this year as he was just 15 years at that time. Mohottilal Jayatillake who is the secretary of the Sri Lanka Weightlifting Federation is the manager cum coach for this championship. |
