Azwer writes to Interior Minister on lawlessness in Puttalam

Parliamentary Affairs Minister A. H. M. Azwer has written to Interior Minister John Amaratunga spotlighting the recent upsurge of lawlessness in the Puttalam area which reached a peak on Saturday when a band of thugs broke into the farm owned by Puttalam Urban Council Acting Chairman Joseph Quintin (UNP) and destroyed all the goods and implements in it.

He has also written to IGP T. Anandaraja to order an immediate probe into this politically motivated incident since there is reliable information that the police was aware of the identity of the suspects not taking any action.

Puttalam which was once a model town during the time of politicians such as M. M. Naina Marikar is today replete with thuggery and lawlessness, the Minister lamented. The Puttalam town is today littered with vice dens and harbours various nefarious activities.

He fears if action was not taken promptly to bring back law and order to Puttalam, there would be grave consequences in the future.
