Sadaham Charika received by Chief Incumbent of Negombo Viharaya

Sadaham Charika, the peace pilgrimage conveying a statue of our Lady of Madhu reached Negombo yesterday morning and was received at the Angurukaramulla Viharaya by the Chief incumbent, the Ven Kondagammulle Gnanasiri Thera and his Dayakas beneath the Wahal kada. The Ven Gnanasiri in a brief anusasana expounded on the necessity to have a new religious culture in order to achieve permanent peace in the country .

Minister Dr. Jayalath Jayawardene the driving force behind the Peace pilgrimage told the Daily News he was proud as a Christian to see of all faiths and political persuasions shedding all differences and uniting in this spiritual exercise to pray for peace. It was also a unique day in that statue blessed by Pope John the second entered little Rome to be received by the Chief Incumbent of the temple which is 150 years old.

Interestingly this peace pilgrimage is taking place at a time the current foot journey to Kataragama is on and coinciding with the annual Esala Perehera. It is organised by the Inter-religious Peace foundation with the blessings of all religious groups to strengthen the peace process.
