Sandun Dias excels in England

By Colvin L. De Silva, our London Corr.

Eighteen year old Sandun Dias, a former Josephian cricketer who represented Sri Lanka in under 15, 17 and 19 cricket is certainly showing off his cricketing abilities with bat and ball playing for Beesborough Cricket Club in the Middlesex League tournament. Sandun is currently in the UK on a cricket scholarship provided by the UK branch of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka.

Wielding the willow magnificently he scored 91 runs against the Barnet Cricket Club and captured 22 wickets in the series with an excellent performance of five-wicket haul against Harrow Town. The young cricketer has earned the respect and admiration of his club and has certainly brought honour to Sri Lanka as a good all-rounder with great potential for the future.

Speaking to the 'Daily News', Dias said that his contract comes to an end after six months in the UK and that he will be returning to Colombo shortly. He was hopeful of climbing up the ladder in his cricketing career and playing for the national team one day.
