A peace cavalcade bearing a statue of Our Lady of Madhu on a floral float began its journey yesterday to the jungle shrine in the Wanni to arrive on time for the Annual Feast on August 15. The pilgrimage took off amidst a large gathering of devotees outside the Church of St. Fatima at Deans Road yesterday morning. People of all faiths joined in the pilgrimage symbolising hopes of lasting peace in the country. The statue blessed by Pope John Paul the second will be taken along the route from Wattala, Kandana, Ja-ela, Negombo along the country’s Roman Catholic belt.



Yet another road tragedy

Girl knocked down and dragged for two kilometres

Another tragic episode was added to the grim tale of the current spate of road fatalities when a young girl who came for a job interview in the Eheliyagoda town was knocked down by a Pajero which then sped away dragging the victim under it a fair distance.
