Will Java Lane SC maintain top slot? by Bernard Perera The Dialog Premier League Soccer Championship enters its tenth week with full card of eight games scheduled. Java Lane SC from Slave Island have reached the top of the table pushing down Blue Stars SC and Negombo Youth SC, the defending champs. Java Lane which was behind champs Negombo YSC and Blue Stars SC got themselves well placed after eight games winning five, losing two and drawing one to collect 13 points. The second Army SC and Negombo Youth SC to have collected 13 points each from seven and six games respectively. Meanwhile the Blue Star SC which got off to a flying start with four straight wins lost their fifth game and were pushed down to fourth slot is capable of moving up at least two places this week. Already with a good win last Wednesday against Matara SC and facing Hyline SC from Kandy in which they are favoured could even reach the top of the table. Army SC-Air Force clash could be the best game this weekend. Army who occupy the second place can maintain the same position if they overcome this strong outfit from Air Force. The defending champions Negombo Youth SC who went down to hometown rivals Jupiters SC a few days ago suffered another set back during the past week losing to Navy SC 1 goal to nil. If Saunders SC override Negombo team in their game on Sunday the champions will have to undergo a severe setback and have to work hard to maintain their prestige. Saunders who failed to impress last season dramatically have not yet recovered totally up-to-date. Navy SC who made the biggest upset downing champions will confront Old Bens at Kotahena on Sunday. Here the former is favoured. Victory SC who toppled the giant killers Jupiters SC few days back will have things easy confronting Matara SC at Matara. On Monday Renown SC FA Cup winners take on last years runner-up Police SC while on Tuesday Air Force is to meet Hyline SC. Both matches will kick off at Shalika Grounds. |
