Rajaratnam in Nuwara Eliya The Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council meeting held under the chairmanship of Mayor Chandana Karunaratne, unanimously applauded and appreciated the proposal of the government and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe towards granting citizenship rights to 163,000 stateless persons of Indian origin and those dependents born after - on a resolution moved by L. Nehruji and seconded by P. Segar, at the monthly meeting of the council. Mayor Chandana Karunaratne, M. Balakrishnan and several others also spoke. The Mayor brought to the notice of the council members that ninety percent of the acquisition work of the Ceylon Brewery lands and its buildings for the development of the Nuwara Eliya base hospital was over and the work will commence shortly. Deputy Mayor P. Sivarajah, complained of the stray dog menace within the city and said that people were greatly inconvenienced and were scared to walk about owing to this problem. |
