Jiffrey Abdeen - Kandy South Group Correspondent The Annual Sessions of the College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka and the Second International Conference of the SAARC Surgical Care Society will be held from August 13 to 17 at the Hotel Topaz/Tourmaline atop the Bahirawakande Hill in Kandy. President of the SAARC Surgical Care Society Professor Arjuna Aluwihare said that this is the first formal conference of the official SAARC Apex surgical body - the SAARC Surgical Care Society which was conceived in Kandy in 1996. The programme of this important meeting is a blend of talks by renowned regional and other experts on important subjects, a pooling of expertise in the region of matters of mutual concern in clinical and education fields, and new ideas from surgeons in the country and the region. Since this meeting is a joint effort with the College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka, there are many opportunities for surgeons of all nations to mix which will be mutually beneficial. President of the College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka Prof. Channa Ratnatunga in his message states that this will be a good opportunity for surgeons and surgical trainees of the SAARC region to get to know each other and be aware of the common problems which exist in the region. The Pre-congress Workshops which will be held on August 13 from 8 am to 5 p.m. will cover the field of Laparoscopic Workshop, Microvascular workshop, Research workshop and Clinic, Workshop on Evaluation of the Prostrate (1. Trans abdominal Ultrasound Scan. 2. PSA and Transrectal Ultrasound Scan), Workshop on Sentinel Node Biopsy in Breast Carcinoma. The Post Congress workshops will be held on Sunday, August 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The subjects to be covered will be: 1. Live demonstration of hip replacement, 2. Mesh repair for hernia (live demonstration), 3. Surgery for Fistula in Ano' (live demonstration), 4. Computer Application in Medicine. Workshops will also be held on August 14, 15 and 16 covering various fields of surgery, including transplantation of organs. |
