A 15 member tourism trade delegation headed by Sri Lanka Tourist Board (SLTB) Chairman Paddy Withana will leave for China today as part of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's team for the Investors Forum in Beijing. A special tourism investment presentation is part of the programme given the opportunities now being opened to promote tourism between the two countries, Chairman Sri Lanka Tourist Board Paddy Withana said. According to him, the delegation is scheduled to meet with Tourism Authorities in China as well as to hold a series of discussions with the Chinese travel trade. "China is a billion dollar tourism market. We are optimistic that Sri Lanka can tap the potential of this huge sector given the close religious and cultural links the two countries have shared for many years," he said, citing the recently acquired `destination status' as a major impetus for tourism promotion initiatives in China. Under Chinese Government regulations, 'destination status' recognition by the Government is a prerequisite to promote travel out of the country. |
