Korea Air Cargo to increase frequency to Colombo

"Korean Air Cargo which received the Air Transport world's ' Cargo Airline of the Year Award' 2002, recently is keen to maintain their position.

"Last year was beyond our expectations, said Managing Vice President of Cargo Sales and Route Management, Kyung - Ho Choi or Ken Choi, as he is better known in the industry.

An official statement for Korean Air stated that it expects 2003 Revenue to rise 7% with its operating profit to increase to more than US $ 316 Million in year 2003.

As part of its ongoing "Operational Excellence" Program, Korean Air cargo is continuing the implementation of the full range of products of the Sky Team Cargo Alliance of which Korean was one of the founding Members in year 2000.

As one of the partners in the US based cargo sales joint venture together with Air France and Delta Airline, Korean Air Cargo is also directly involved in several working groups within the Alliance covering subjects ranging from marketing and network to IT quality, and warehousing.

Korean Air is represented in Sri Lanka by Alpha Tours Limited which was the GSA for Passenger and Cargo since 1976.

Alpha Tours an ISO 9002 certified company is the 1st IATA Cargo GSA in Sri Lanka and a member of Federations of Airline Cargo General Sales Agents (FAGSA). Alpha Tours have been instrumental in getting Korean Air to operate a regular Cargo freighter flight into Colombo. In 1988 Korean Air commenced the freighter service and incidentally was the first Airline to operate a regular Boeing 747 Freighter into Colombo.

Korean Air has maintained its B 747 freighter service with an occasional shift to MD 11 freighter during low seasons. With the introduction of the 2nd frequency of Friday in addition to the Tuesday operation, it would give a tremendous boost to the Cargo market in Colombo by offering a better and speedier service for the Seoul/USA/Canada in-bound and out-bound shipments.

The Korean Air cargo freighter service has always been asset to the Apparel industry in Sri Lanka during times of crisis with their efficient service.
